Spell Components

Verbal (V)

The caster speaks mystic words. You must be able to speak aloud and clearly. Silence spells, gags, or effects that prevent speech will block verbal components.

Somatic (S)

The caster performs precise hand gestures. This requires at least one free hand. You can’t perform somatic components if your hands are full, bound, or otherwise restricted.

Material (M)

The caster uses physical substances or objects, such as herbs, powders, or crystals. Most material components can be replaced by a component pouch or a spellcasting focus, unless the spell specifies a cost or says the item is consumed. In those cases, you must have the exact item.
